Sarah Jo stats and first ever blood draw..yikes!

By Michelle | January 9, 2009

Our big girl Sarah Jo had to go to see the doctor today because when I took her little sissy Samantha Jane in for her 18 month check up earlier this week, I asked the doctor if it was typical for a 4 1/2 year old to be able to pull her hair out easily. In the last few months, we have found some piles of hair lying around…and when we ask her about what happened, she tells us….”there was a knot, so I pulled it out….”, “I got it stuck in my coat zipper”, and the list goes on. Nevertheless, the doc does not think it is anything serious, but wanted to check her iron levels since she is so fair skinned and doesn’t eat lots of green veggies. We discussed the “blood draw” the last few days and Sarah Jo understood what was going to happen, but insisted that her daddy come with us, thank God for daddy!! After talking to the doctor we all agreed that it was better to just do the blood draw than try and guess what, if anything, is going on. Jeff and I are SO PROUD of our little Sarah Jo. I know she was frightened, but she sat in my lap, held out her arm, and we hoped for the best. As soon as she saw the butterfly needle, there was whimpering, but after a few tears and two viles of “red blood”, it was done. One of the 3?? nurses (let’s put it this way, they said the average 4-5 year old can take 3-4 nurses at a time) fixed her up with a doggie band aid ironically (exactly what she asked for before we got to the doctor’s office today…I still have no idea how the heck the nurse knew to give her a doggie one…maybe just pure luck…hey, everyone can use some luck every once in awhile) and we were headed to the pink treasure box where we picked out a sparkly pink jump rope because we do not have one at our house. We should get the results on Monday, but in the meantime, we are resting assured that all is well, we are just being extra cautious. On a positive note, her growth continues to be right on schedule and she weighed in at a whopping 34.6 lbs. with all her clothes on and is 41 1/2 inches long. Auntie Le Le will be happy because I’m pretty sure one of the magic numbers at amusement parks to ride cooler rides is 42 inches. Only 1/2 inch to go by this summer, or some shoes with heels, one of the two. Her weight remains steady in the 25% and her height at the 50%. I have this odd feeling she is going to be taller than me! I’ll keep you posted on the blood results once we get them!
