Service to others…

By Michelle | January 28, 2009

Honestly I’ve kind of had writer’s block the last few weeks…not sure if it is because I’ve been fighting off a cold this week that has finally gotten the best of me today…or because Jeff has been super busy with work and volunteering at the school…or maybe it is just because it’s winter! Whatever it is, it is not so bad because it means that life is going along pretty darn well and there is nothing major to report. The girls are also both fighting a cold this week, so hopefully we will turn the corner before the weekend. Last weekend we had friends over for dinner who will be adding another little baby boy into their lives within days and Sarah Jo is SO excited to meet him. We have dinner plans again this weekend which should be fun! Last weekend I also took Sarah Jo to Le Le’s basketball game (she coaches a CYO team). At first she was a little intimidated by the big girls, but by the end of the game, she was out shooting baskets on the court. Samantha had to stay home because she wasn’t feeling well, but hopefully she will get to go along this weekend.

Since I’m feeling under the weather today, I was sitting on the couch for a few minutes and caught a little bit of Ellen. She was interviewing a man who was an anchorman and then went back to school to be a vet tech. As soon as he graduated from vet tech school, he got fired from his anchorman job. The man said that it was OK, because his passion is really to help animals. Ellen commented that the best thing in life…better than money or any material item is service to others. That struck a nice cord with me today, because as a stay-at-home mom, there are some days that I wonder if my services would more appreciated elsewhere. I think anyone who has ever been a stay-at-home parent can relate. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, cherish it, and feel completely honored that we have the financial means to do it, but there are “moments” as in every job. I had absolutely no idea what my parents gave up so my mom could stay home with us…now I do! On that note, one of my bosses has a dirty diaper, the other boss needs to be picked up from preschool, and the other boss is barking outside because she wants in. Duty calls!

Oh and one more thing, not sure if I ever posted Samantha Jane’s 18 month stats so here is goes. She weighs a whopping 19lbs 4oz which officially made her fall off the growth chart. Not a big deal unless it continues, but she’s a strong one so we are not worried! Her height is 30 1/2 inches which puts her in the 25%. They are both little, but have plenty of sas at times to make up for it…heehee!
