Lingering Blood Clot, Sarah Jo Stats, and Dentist Appts……

By Michelle | August 24, 2009

First off, it is GREAT to be HOME!! It feels like I have not been here forever and we spent this weekend catching up on house stuff. Last week was mainly spent at doctor appointments and hopefully now we are on the downhill slope.

On Monday when Jeff picked me up from the hotel, he had to take me over to Evergreen Hospital for an ultrasound on my leg. I had been having leg pain since Saturday night in the hotel that was continually getting worse. The ultrasound confirmed that I do have a blood clot in my leg, but the Endocrinologist was hoping that it would clear on it’s own. Unfortunately we learned from the ultrasound that I had this morning that it did not clear, so Jeff and I are going to see a Hematologist tomorrow at 10:45 at Evergreen. We are hopeful that tomorrow afternoon we will have a plan of attack and get it resolved.

On Tuesday, I took both the girls to the dentist for their 6 month check ups. Last year, Sammy Jane barely let the dentist look at her mouth from a distance, so it was such a nice surprise when she watched patiently on my lap while Sarah Jo demonstrated how to be an excellent patient. When it came time for Sammy to hop in the chair, she put her sunglasses on, sat back in the chair, and let the hygienist clean every single tooth. She even got the hang of “Mr. Thirsty” by the end of the visit. I was encouraging the dentist to hurry up and get her check up done before she changed her mind and took off one of his fingers. The entire dental staff could not believe how amazing they both did, and I didn’t let on how shocked I was either.

On Wednesday, we took Sarah Jo in for her 5 year check up. She weighed in at 36.2 lbs (25%) and was 42 3/4 inches tall (50-75%). She was excited about getting taller because she LOVES those water slides. Jeff assured me that she will most likely be taller than me, but hey, that is really not that hard to do. She took her 4 shots like a trooper, but thank God daddy was with us…she told me later that she would not have known what to do if he was not there (can you say Daddy’s Girls???). We do have to follow up with Sarah Jo’s snoring issue (which can at times bring down the house) at Seattle Children’s Hospital Sleep Clinic at the end of September. Her tonsils are moderately enlarged, so they need to determine if she has sleep apnea before determining next steps. Since we have once again hit every deductible known to man this year, it is good to get everything outta the way before January 1st.

Sammy Jane is doing great, but has hit her twos with a vengeance. I “think” (and really hope!!) that her molars are causing her to be somewhat cranky the last few weeks and once they pop through, she will have a little more patience. Only time will tell. As soon as Sarah Jo starts school next Monday, Sammy Jane and I are working on the “binkie obsession” that she seems to have developed. First step is to get it outta her mouth while her big sissy is in school and then slowly move on from there.

I’ll be sure to continue to update the blog about what we find out tomorrow at our doc appt. Thanks for the continued prayers and good thoughts being sent our way!
