Dang Blood Clot, Evergreen State Fair, and first day of school on Monday….
By Michelle | August 28, 2009
Let’s start with the fun stuff first! We went to the Evergreen State Fair today and the girls had a blast! Sammy Jane is still too little to ride the rides, but Sarah Jo had a fabulous time. It is AMAZING to Jeff and I that she can ride things that go up, down, sideways, in circles, etc., and the girl CONTINUES to get car sick, but handles any ride like a champ! It boggles the mind! They both got their face painted (thanks Nana & Papa), made those crazy sand birds (thanks Daddy), ate way too much sugar, and saw lots of animals. All in all, it was a WONDERFUL DAY!
My favorite part of the day was meeting Ruby, a little beautiful Jack Russell Terrier that was in the dog barn participating in the show ring. Nana was lovin’ on that little dog for a good 15 minutes and kept saying how pretty she was. Needless to say, the girls ADORED her and we came home with a phone number in case little Ruby ever has babies (fingers crossed!..sorry daddy!).
We were at Sarah Jo’s school twice yesterday, in the morning to meet her teacher (who she already knows) and at the parent orientation where Daddy gave a presentation on the fancy new website that he created for the school. The coolest part is that you can now follow our little school on Twitter….only Jeff Kujath would be able to create something that cool folks! He has a lot more desktop work to do there tomorrow, so the girls and I will be heading to the school to keep him company in the afternoon. The girls actually think they own the place when they are there, but it is great, they love it there!!
Now on to the not so fun stuff. As a lot of you know, while I was recovering from the I-131, my left calf began to hurt. By the time that Jeff checked me out of the hotel on August 17th, I could barely walk. I called the endocronolgist and he said that although I-131 does not have blood clotting side effects, that he was going to send me in for an ultrasound. He told me that there is absolutely no reason I should have a blood clot and then he said, but there is no reason why I should have a lot of things. As luck would have it, the ultrasound showed that it was a blood clot. We gave it one week to resolve on its own and after many threats of being sent to the ER, we were told that I would need to be on blood thinners because the clot actually enlarged. Poor Jeff, thank God he is a loyal one, ’cause I have really put him through the ringer the past few years. We met with an amazing hematologist at Evergreen Hospital who came highly recommended from our awesome endocrinologist. I have been getting daily heparin injections in my belly since Tuesday and started coumadin on Wednesday of this week. I’ve been at the hospital every day this week getting my injections and getting finger pokes at the anti-coagulation clinic. As soon as they get my meds correct, the poking should calm down a bit, but it will most likely take a few weeks. Good news is that once again this is very treatable and I’m getting great care. I know it is the last bump in the road back to great health. I thank God every time I walk out of my appointments because I have seen many, many people my age who are very, very ill…it definitely gives you a good perspective and makes you remember that a little shot in the belly is really not that bad after all. I will take it over the low iodine diet any day!
Thanks again for your continued prayers and support, we appreciate it!
