Bubblegum and Jeff’s ALMOST broken foot
By Michelle | May 27, 2008
Well, it has been an interesting weekend. Jeff got back late from Texas on Friday night and the girls and I were in bed, all exhausted from the week. Jeff proceeded to tell me that he dropped a large piece of 70-80lb equipment on his foot and it hurt pretty bad at the time, but it was feeling better. From what I can gather, the bottom of the shipping box that held the vertical piece of equipment gave way and the sharp edge came right down on his foot. When he took off his shoe, it was SO swollen and a deep purple…really not a healthy purple you want to see on someone’s foot! I determined that it was a foot hematoma and the best treatment for him this weekend was the RICE method…rest, ice, elevate, compress. Sarah Jo has been helping me bring him ice packs and wrapping them on his foot with an ace bandage. It actually looks a lot better tonight and the purple is definitely a lighter shade. Jeff with a broken foot on crutches is not really something we need right now, so needless to say, he was pretty darn lucky!
Sarah Jo has had a rough weekend, not sure if she’s tired, getting sick, or just blaming me for daddy being gone last week. We went shopping with Nana and Papa today to get groceries and it did not go well. By the end of the trip, I was trying anything to just get through the store. I told her that I would buy her some bubble gum ice cream if she would shape up. It worked…well for a little while…but I think we are all just tired and grumpy today…hey it’s allowed! So tonight she finally did earn some bubble gum ice cream and I LOVED watching her get to the real pieces of bubble gum, taking them out of the ice cream and making a little pile to chew after she was done with the cone. Exactly like I used to do and tonight I was making my own little pile of gum right next to her. She was THRILLED that daddy and I allowed her to chew her gum and Jeff and I realized that after about 5 minutes of silence…gum might be in the future for a little treat that magically creates a little quiet time if needed.
Happy Memorial Day!!
