Great News!

We saw the endocronologist on Wednesday and the appointment went GREAT! Although I’m still having some left over symptoms from the I-131 treatment, he assured me to just be patient and to give it some more time. He said that is not uncommon for it to take up to 9 months after treatment to feel normal again. He also reminded me that it will be a new “normal” since I no longer have an actual thyroid. I’m OK with that information, but told him that having to take a 2 hour daily nap is really not the “new normal” I plan on continuing!! Hopefully some of the symptoms that I’m having from the meds will resolve themselves with time because my thyroid hormone levels are exacting where he wants them to be. I have to stay on the high side of replacement levels to hopefully avoid recurrence.
When discussing additional treatment, he told me that from this point on, I need to just take my meds every day, get blood draws and schedule follow ups when told and he will manage the rest. That was SUCH a relief to hear!! As far as April goes, he does not feel an urgency to do additional testing next April, rather he would prefer to wait until next July. He said that my post-therapy scan was clean, I was perfectly prepped to take the treatment this past July (my blood work was exactly where it needed to be), and he sees hundreds of people whose cancer never reoccurs after one I-131 treatment. Next July, I will need to be on a low iodine diet for a week (I swear I would rather do natural childbirth again and I made sure to tell him that!!!), but I will not need to come off my thyroid replacement hormones like I did this past summer. They can actually just give me some shots 3 days in a row before doing the scan and get a good idea of what is going on. If and hopefully that is a big “if” I need to do treatment again, we will plan for it accordingly, but he said to go home, live my life, rest, and get my blood drawn in another 6 weeks. We will worry about next July, next July!!
As you can imagine, Jeff and I walked outta there on could nine. Please keep praying, I know that God is working miracles for us because he is getting many messages for my healing sent his way.

Michelle, Congrats on your postive news! What a relief it must be for you to have something go your way, health-wise. I hope you and the girls are all doing well. I have really been enjoying reading your blog. You definitely have alot going on- keep up the good work and take care!
