A MIRACLE!

I am not sure what inspired our AMAZING little swimming lesson this morning at the Bellevue Pool and honestly I am still in a bit of shock, but here is the play by play.  As you know, we pulled Samantha out of “formal” swimming lessons back at the end of the December, because she really did not like them.  Ever since, through lots of rain and COLD, we have trudged into the Bellevue Pool every Tuesday morning to swim together…just her and I.  For the past four months, we have really accomplished nothing significant and have even had many screaming melt downs about putting our face in the water.  About two weeks ago, I was going through boxes of Sarah Jo’s old clothes in the hope to make Spring appear a little faster and pulled out all of Sarah Jo’s old Spring and Summer clothes from the summer she turned 4.  My finds were really a bust, because our little peanut Sam Sam who only weighs about 28 lbs at almost 4, is way too small to wear most of Sarah Jo’s hand-me-downs, but luckily I somehow kept one bag of 2T clothes from last year that fit perfectly…but I disgress.  Anyway in that pile of clothes, I did find a rainbow swimsuit.  Samantha was OVER THE MOON and told me that next week she was going to show her “old lady friends” her new suit.  Her “old lady friends” are these group of women that are at the pool exercising every Tuesday morning while we are swimming.  Samantha adores them and they adore her right back…you can only imagine…right???   Anyway, Sam Sam is always trying to impress her old lady friends and boy did she outdo herself today.  Last week Auntie Le Le was here and Samantha wanted nothing to do with putting her face under….Le Le really had no advice other than to continue to be patient and to keep swimming.  Today, something clicked!  Samantha told me that she was going to hold my hands, jump off the step, put her face under, and show her old lady friends that she can swim.  And that little girl did just that! Over and over for an hour, she kept jumping off that step!!  Her very favorite “old lady friend” told Samantha that she was so good at swimming now, that she had to teach her how to swim.

All I can say, is thank goodness for “old lady friends”!!!  The lesson….everyone needs an old lady friend in life!
